Nottingham sees spike in job opportunities according to new data from Totaljobs

  • Opportunities in Nottingham soar with a 59% increase in job adverts over the past two years
  • Administration and Sales are the most in-demand industries with a 33% growth in job applications
  • Totaljobs creates ‘City CV’ to bring to life benefits of Nottingham for workers

April 2019 – If you’re currently on the lookout for a new job, you can remain optimistic as research from one of the UK’s leading job boards, Totaljobs, shows there has been a huge 59% increase in job adverts in Nottingham since 2016[i]. The new figures show that the jobs market is booming in the city as it emerges as one of the UK’s hotspots, competing directly for talent with London.

The number of people either changing roles or looking for employment has also seen a steady increase since 2016, with job applications going up by 70%. Administration and Sales roles are most in demand, with Totaljobs recording an impressive 33% increase in applications over the past six months.

These findings come hot on the heels of recent research by Totaljobs that showed that while London may have long been famed for having the best job opportunities, other cities across the UK are becoming increasingly attractive.

Totaljobs research shows that over half (53%) of Londoners would accept a lower salary to relocate to a new city if it meant a better quality of life. The appeal of cities such as Nottingham isn’t going unnoticed with workers across the UK, providing businesses based there with a real opportunity to attract jobseekers to the city.

To celebrate Nottingham and highlight the thriving job opportunities in the city, Totaljobs has reversed the traditional CV to create a Nottingham City CV – a city profile bringing to life Nottingham’s best attributes and most attractive factors. Formatted and written much like a candidate CV, the ‘City CV’ makes the case for ‘hiring’ Nottingham, encouraging candidates to consider the city when looking for their next job opportunity. In keeping with turning the idea of a CV on its head, the City CV is also designed to support employers selling their employer brand when looking to attract new talent to Nottingham.

Sarah Dryburgh, Assistant Campaign Manager at Boots comments“Nottingham has been home to the Boots brand since its humble beginnings when John Boot opened a small herbalist store on Goose Gate in 1849. Throughout the years, the business has been through a lot and pioneered so much change, yet always stayed true to its heritage and values and remained in Nottingham.  On the Beeston site, Ibuprofen was invented and leading brands such as No7, Boots Soltan, Botanics and Boots Pharmaceuticals have been, and still are, developed, formulated and manufactured.

As well as having excellent transport links, Nottingham has a wealth of cultural & historical landmarks and is a hotspot for shopping, bars & restaurants – and with all this to hand it’s easy to see why people love living and working in Nottingham. Plus, it’s all within easy reach of our Support Office!”

Stephen Warnham, Content and Communications Manager at Totaljobs said: “There is a thriving jobs market in Nottingham with a huge number of opportunities not only for jobseekers in the area but also those considering relocating for work. Business growth has meant the rise in vacancies outpaces applications, so there’s a wide range of roles available for talent in Nottingham – meaning employers need to ensure they stand out from the crowd when it comes to recruitment.

“Whatever their story is, there’s a reason why a business is based where it is. That local pride can be tapped into and shared when employers make the most of what’s right on their doorstep. By presenting this visually through video and imagery on company websites and job adverts, they can bring their employer brand to life.

“We hope our fun take on the traditional CV helps to shine a spotlight on the opportunities in the city and gets people talking about employment more confidently.”

The City CV describes Nottingham as “a pioneer with purpose,” boasting an iconic history with several impressive landscapes, including the famed Sherwood Forest nearby. It also highlights sporting icons such as Olympic ice-skating champions Torvill and Dean, and Olympic swimming champion, Rebecca Adlington, who were all born there.
